Good Bye Post

This year being a Year 8 in room 19 has been a successful year for me. It has been a great year spending time with my friends and our lovely teacher Ms Tito. Ms Tito has been a great teacher this whole year. When I hit college she will always be at the back of my mind telling me to do my finest work!

Next year when the Yr 8's move to different schools, all of the boys are going to be split up. All of my friends are going to go to different colleges. This is the last time we will get to see our friends before we go to college next year.

I would like to say a big farewell to all the teachers, our principal Mr Burt and all the other staf. ,I would like to say thank you to all the teachers that helped me with my learning and also telling me that I was a smart kid and also telling me that I was a funny kid .

Next year its going to be weird because my friends aren't going to be there. Its going to be a bit scary because its going to be new school and I don't know what its going to be like at my new school. Next year I want to have a good class and good mates to hang out with.

What I will be missing about this school when I leave is going to be the teachers and my friends..

My amazing reflection

Having a net book has helped my learning because every time I don't know something I just go on to Google and search it. Its helped me with my maths,reading and writing, e.g one time I didn't know the awnser to a maths question so I searched up how to solve it.

The thing I learnt by myself this year, I found out that Nelson Mandela helped stop racism in his country and he went jail for it. Then I found out that he died just a week ago and that he was the president of south Africa.

*My teacher ms Tito has the expectation for us to be purple cows, Purple cow means to stand out from the rest. Plus to be better then you can be.

*The thing I have learnt by myself is how to fix the internet problems on my net book cause one time it wasn't working properly so I fixed it.

*The thing I have learnt from my friend this year is how to insert a tick on my Google docs. So I asked my friend and he showed me how to do it.

*I have helped my friends get good at hand ball. Cause they didn't know how to play properly so I helped them.

*I have grown my key competencies through digital tools cause I can communicate with people think better because I have the whole internet to find my awnser to anything.

Year 8 camp

Recently we went to keswick christian camp in Rotorua for our year eight camp, when we were getting ready to leave school Mr Burt was talking to us about having the best attitude and acting the pt england way. As we were leaving on the bus everyone was waving out to the teachers out the window and getting ready for a long drive.

When we were driving along the way to Rotorua we stop at a park so that we can have lunch and also have a little bit of fresh air,so we got back into our sets and get ready for another long ride before we get to keswick christian camp.

When we got to the campsite we all jump out of the bus with excitement and enthusiasm just wanting to go throw our stuff into our cabins and to try out our beds. In our Cabins there were five to six people in one cabin. As we all thought that we were just stay in our cabins Mrs Nua blew the whistle to tell us that we will all be going on a never bush walk.     

During our camp we did a lot sightseeing around Rotorua like going to see amazing things like

watching the geyser exploded into smoke. As we were still sightseeing we shot off to the campsite to unload our stuff then we jump back into the bus to go the pools.

on the last day we went for a ride on the luge and on the sky lines when we got in the skylines it was like we were floating in air. When we were at the top of the mountain we went to the luge for a hard ride down. As we were going down the hill everybody was nearly crashing in to the side of the barrier. Then when we finished we headed back to school.

Nelson mandela

Nelson Mandela was born on july 18 1918 he grew up in a small village called Rolihlahla Mandela at Mvezo in the Transkei,his parents were Nosekeni Fanny and Gadla Hephakanyiswa. Nelson Mandela had 9 siblings.

Rolihlahla Mandela  went to a local Mission school in his Home village Mvenao,When he received and educations to Clarkebury to boarding school Institute for his Junior Certificate. Then he went to a secondary school which was called Wesleyan.  When Rolihlahla Mandela was still in school he came a long to a teacher who called him Nelson because the teach couldn't pronounce his name properly.

In 1962 Mandela was arrested and charged with high treason along with his collaborators. The Rivonia Trial, as it came to be known would turn Mandela into a symbol of the struggle against apartheid.

In 1990 nelson mandela was finally released from jail, But he still thought against the white to get equal rights. He was Elected by Parliament as the  first president of a democratic in South Africa. Then he launched his autobiography long walk to freedom.

What i learnt from nelson mandela was to treat people respectfully weather they are the same color as you or not. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

The three highlights of my year

My First highlight: 
Waitangi is my first highlight, because it was a lot of fun going down there learning new stuff about the treaty of waitangi and walking in the footsteps of our ancestors. It was an experience of a life time. My favourite thing there was having dinner at shippys.

My Second Highlight:
Soft ball is my second highlight, because it is my favourite sport and i like playing with my friends and winning. When we played softball at the start of the year it was cool cause we played kings collage. It was awesome playing heaps of teams.

My Third Highlight:
Fiafia is my third highlight cause it was cool and it was cool to perform in front of heaps of people. It was cool to learn new dances and to perform with my friends on stage. My favourite performance was the cook island dance because it was loud and awesome.

NASA - Getting payed to sleep

Getting payed to sleep sounds like a dream job, but there's a catch you have to stay in bed for 70 days. NASA is paying people to lie in bed, You can read a book watch some tv or just lie down but you can't leave the bed. There going to study the effects of weightlessness and they thought the best way to do that was to get peoples feet off the ground.

The project is called bed rest project and volunteers will be placed in tilted beds so there feet are slightly higher than there body. They will then stay there whether going to the toilet or the bathroom. After ten weeks they'll be asked to get out of there bed and do a number of exercises to see how the lack of exercise affect them. Lying down for long periods can cause loss in your muscles. so there testing so see if your muscles get worn out.

Writing sample

It was a very dark night it was halloween the night were all the ghosts would come out and scare people. This boy named tim walking the streets wanting to scare his friends Richard and Clevelyn, he was going to take them to a haunted house just around the corner from his house. So he told them to meet at the house, when they all got to the haunted house they busted the door down and went in and saw blood everywhere even on the roof.

Then suddenly they heard a whisper they heard “Leave now” over and over again but the didn’t know where it was coming from.  They quickly walked to the busted down door but when they got there the door was back up on the hinges and sealed shut so they couldn't get out then they heard another whisper “Run run there coming for you” over and over again then a man covered with blood came running after them. So they ran as fast as they could to any room in the house but the whispers were getting louder and louder and the footsteps were getting louder and louder thats when they found something.

They found a Window that was open and was able to fit everyone threw it to get out before the guy would catch them. So they jumped threw but one of them got stuck it was Richard so they pulled and pulled so he would come out and it worked after they got him out they rang the police to torch the house and everything in it but it was a long time till they would go there again

first day at school

Its my first day at school I was feeling excited but scared at the same time. As I walked into my new class I was feeling nervous of what the kids would think of me so I grabbed hold of my mum and hid behind her. When I looked outside I saw the grass greener than the green trees and the trees taller the the sky tower. So I looked around to see what i could find out about my new school.

When I went back inside to my class I met my teacher miss Green and all my classmates, when my mum left it was time for morning tea. During morning tea I went to find someone to play with on the playground but I couldn't find anyone to play with me but then i found someone so my first day at school was awesome.

My Holidays

In the holidays I went to the tunnels by devin port that the navy built these tunnels were made when New Zealand was at war. When we were driving to the tunnels I could imagin all the guns that would be there and all the tunnels that they dug. When we got there we drove to the entrance of the tunnels got out and we started to explore the tunnels and the caves.


When we got in side it was like every corner we turned it would get darker and darker and scearyer and scearyer. But the we gun it was no ordinary gun it was a big cannon used to blow up ships that would come in to our harbour then we saw five smaller ones surrounding it but they were the same they were cannons. When we went back inside the tunnels it was even darker for some reasoned you could see all the holes they made in the walls for there guns.

When we were about to leave the tunnels I saw steps leading to some were so i followed it at the end of the steps there was four of the same rooms. But in one there looked like there was train tracks there for the men to put the guns on and push it to there destination. Then we left the tunnels and as we were leaving I could see the cannons lined up and the biggest one in the middle it was awesome.

Our Groups negatives and positives

Last week we had our creative strand  our movie was based on love and we chose to get little kids and say what they love about school.

The most negative thing about my groups movie was That we had no camera angels and it was short and we didn't use our time properly. It was short because we couldn't get to our footage it was locked away.

The most positive thing about my groups movie was that we worked with little kids and we had fun playing with them. We all had a good time and we all had lots of fun.

Martin Luther King

Walking united to the Lincoln Memorial we were peacefully singing. cheerfully and proudly waiting for Martin Luther King to announce what was going on, Martin words where “ I have a dream”  he wanted his people to be treated equally and his people not having to give up a seat for white people. That black people can go to the same school as white people and the black have the same funds as the white people.

Harold

For the last two days our class room 19 has been going to Lyn and Harold in the life ED caravan to learn about WOF(warrant of fitness). She said that cars need fuel and oil to keep it running and we need food to keep our body running. then we learnt about when your addicted to fatty foods such as Pies from shop's,Mac Donald,KFC,burger king and Wendy and more.

We learnt about what was true and false like if chocolate was a Vegetable because it was coco beans  and coco beans come from trees but no it is false. Then we were talking about the food pyramid and that new Zealands pyramid is turning to go the other way.

After we were finished we watched a movie about a bird and a pig and they were talking about healthy food and we should keep our body healthy. Then when that finished he were able to see Harold for a little while before we left the caravan then it was time to say good bye.

The Three Evil Pigs

Once upon a time there were three evil little pigs and a big good wolf. The three pigs owned houses. A straw house (the littlest pig’s) a hay house (medium pig’s) and a brick house (largest pig’s house).

One day the smallest pig tried to set the wolf up by telling him to come in and to blow down his hay house. The pig said it was to old and it needed to come down. But really the pig planned to set him up so that he would get the insurance. In one big blow to  the hay house it was flattened to pieces.  

Next the little pig took him to his brother’s house made out of sticks.The little pig secretly told his older brother all about his plans to get insurance. Then the pigs told him to blow the stick house down to because it was old and broken. So the wolf huffed and puffed and blew his house down.  

When he was done blowing down his house the brothers took the wolf to their oldest pigs brick house.When they got there they told the oldest pig their plan to get insurance. All the brothers told the wolf to go and blow it down so the wolf huffed and puffed and blew and blew and blew but the house didn't fall down.

The pigs got so angry that they decided to invite the wolf inside the brick house, murder him and burn down the house. Their plan was to say it was the wolf that did it and that they only killed him because he tried to kill them.

So they did it and that was the end of that.

Narrative cooking compertition

It was the finals of the cooking challenge and each team were head to head with there cooking. My
team was making sushi, In our sushi there was going to be tuna, avocado and salmon. I was on my
own, All on my own I had to try and and make my dish in under 10 minutes or I would lose the challenge.
When we were finished making the dish we had to take it to the judges to see if it was good. When I gave the dish to them it looked like they loved because of all the smiles on there faces and they were eating more and more. When they finished they all gave me a mark of 10 and I won.

New Kopu hou

this term in our class we have been learning about two new words each. My words were vitamin D and vitamin B6, we had to research about our words and find out as much as we can. And when we found all of the stuff out we had to put it in a presentation.

training for fun run

For the last two weeks we have been training for the our fun run. For our fun run we have to get sponsors (aunty's,uncles,dad,mum,nannas or poppas) to give us money at the end of the run. But first we have to run 5ks that's why we have been running 1k every day.

we have to go out to the reserve and start as we run we run threw mud,water and trees. at the end of  every run every one has to run threw the gate and sit down and take a break. After the run is over every one is tired and lying on the grass that's when the teachers say we have to run again.

I'm doing all right at  running but I need to slow down and work on my paste if I run fast at the start I get tired at the middle. then I start to walk threw all of it my time is about 6:30 It would be good to do better and paste my self in my running.

Maths whizz

Since last week our class room 19 have been on maths whizz. Maths whizz is a good place for maths as well as math problems like this one. On this problem you have to work out if the shape is a regular or irregular. if its a regular you put it in the regular box and if its a irregular you have to put it in the irregular.maths whizz is alot of fun and iv'e had a good experience with it.

This book is getting better and it's kind of funny

Will.i.am

You will never believe who came to our school. It was Will.i.am and our fiafia group hip hop got to perform for him. We had to wait in our music room for the kapa haka to finish so we could go on. When we walked threw the door we saw him then we walked on stage and then we performed. Then when we finished performing we went back in to the music room and walked back into the hall a sat at the back. It was his time to talk he said he was giving 100 thousand dollars to the manaiakalani trust.

EVALUATE:I like this story because. The boy always does dumb stuff all the time.

I like this book but its a bit slow of getting to the point of things.

What my friends say about me

On the last day of the last term. Our class had to walk around with paper on our backs so people could write on them. They had to write positive thing about what they thought about us. It was cool to see people writing positive things on my back as well as every one else's.

One of the things that they said about me was that I looked like sonny bill. I don't know why, its probably because I had a hair cut like him. And I try to not get it messed up and get it wreaked.

Another thing they said about me was that I was funny. Probably because some time I make up funny things and every one starts to laugh. And when I do funny stuff to make people laugh and dum stuff to.

The opportunity of doing that was cool because I found out things that I didn't know about me.

Fiafia 2013 Hiphop

For the pass 8 weeks On Thursdays we've been having our Fiafia practise for hiphop we have it in the street were it is nice and cool. Our tutor that come in is good a hiphop and she has help by Miss V we have it for about 50 minutes. Where doing it so all the Fiafia groups at the end will perform on one night that's why its good to practise.

In hiphop the song we are doing is macklemore "can't hold us" Its a four minute song . Its a fast song and its hard to learn it but our tutor is teaching us and shes god at it there are some parts of it that are slow and some parts are fast. And we have to try to keep up with it or we will look like idiots infront of the tutor.

When we learnt the moves they were fast are we had to get them perfect and practise like were doing the real thing. When were tired we don't get a brake we have to keep dancing till we get it sharp enough to perform it. If people are not doing it right and not listening to the tutor then they have to do it by them selfs but if we all get it right then we move on to the next move.

I like doing hiphop cause its cool and we get to were cool uniforms and just have fun.

Triathlon

On Wednesday the 3rd four men came from Triathlon New Zealand to teach us about it and to know what order you do it in, And how to do it proply they set it up on the field so there was space.

The first thing we had to do was swimming but since we didn't have a pool we had to go on a slip and slide. When we got ready at the start one man was squirting the hose at every one. It was freezing as well as cool we had to go on it 4 times but the first time we went on it we were slipping and every
thing. And the soap got in every ones eyes so it was hard to see.

Then we had to bike it was a short around the field but it felt long im just lucky that I got a mountain bike. If I didn't get a mountain bike It would of been sore on my feet, when we hoped on the bike we had to hope on it out of were the bikes were and have our helmet on. As I was going round the corner I tried to overtake the person in front of me but it was hard then we finally got back i was tired but i still had to run.

When I was running around the field I was also trying to over take people but still trying to paste myself  then I was running then when I got to the end I came 6th But at least I had fun.

Picking Harakeke

Last week on Thursday we walked over to omaru creek to pick some harakeke/flax to weave, when we got there we had to sit down in the shade to listen to miss Tito. the reason why we were doing that was because we were going there was so we could learn about harakeke.

 Mrs Tito had to tell us some rules before we could pick it we had to say a prayer and then we had to learn some rules. They were don't cut the Pepi the baby or the Matua the dad or the Whaea the mum and don't slap each other with them because they are a taonga. Don't cut it at night and don't cut it in the rain or it will die.

The second thing we learnt was how to cut the harakeke proply you have to cut it on a angle so all of the goo drips back in to the plant to feed it. But make sure you don't cut the the baby or it will die it is easy to mistake it and cut it. some people cut it on perpouse because it is the finest peace of them all And the father and mother.

Then we came back to school to practice how to weave a putiputi/flower when we got weaving Miss Tito said every thing to do but I got lost. so I had to start again and it was hard for me to keep up but in the end i didn't finish because I couldn't keep up but it was fun any way

It was cool even though I failed hope we can do it again some day.

Tuakana Teina (Big Brother Little brother)

On Tuesdays we go to our school Library and read to Room 9 they come and sit down inside and they have to pick any one of us to read to. When there done picking they get a book they want to read, then we can go outside with them or we can read in the library.

Then they have to read to us thats the part when we have to help them to read and to concentrate on what there reading. Then its our turn to read to them but only if they want us to, if they do they have to go and get a book that they want us to read.

My experience with this is awesome cause i love hearing the littles kids read.

DLO presentation all about me

School picnic

On a hot breezy day we had our school picnic down at our reserve it was a day to have fun in the sun but before we went we had to have a meeting in the hall. we do this be cause its a good day to have a day with the school and get to know each other its good cause we dont have to do any work. When we went down we had to find a spot under the tree to have our lunch when we got under the tree every one set there bag down and went to play. Then came back after to have there lunch there were a lot of people running around and playing games most people like me were playing softball. Then it was time to go back so we lined up and walked back. The best part of the day was playing soft ball.

The partnership

Partnership is like in a relationship when two people work together and make their own jobs also doing existing between two or more persons who join to carry on a trade or business. Each or more people contributes money or other things like skill. Partnership  and relationship can be very like with people around the world  they can commit or not that garte.

Learning About Honesty

What is Honesty? This year Pt England school is learning to be “Better Together” - “Kia pai te kotahi” . In Room 19 we have been investigating love, compassion, honesty and tolerance. Ms Tito (our teacher) gave us a task to select one of these words to write a definition and present an example of what it means to our class. The reason we are learning about these things are to help us understand ourselves and others so we can be a better person today and in the future.
